BMW

320 iA Coupe / E30

History

The two owners of this beautiful BMW 320i both took the utmost care of the car: Originally delivered new in Stuttgart in 1989 to a then 62 year old lady and twenty years later (with 17000 kilometers on the odometer) was sold to a Danish BMW enthusiast who continued the meticulous upkeep of the car.

Now the E30 is fast approaching status as a real classic car and this car presents a fine chance for a real enthusiast: The two previous owners have still just managed 18500 original kilometers on aggregate, and the car comes with a fully stamped service book including a new cambelt in 2016 as well.

The colour is even an original special order in "Alpina Blau Metallic", the car rides on original BMW alloys and inside and out it presents as the kilometers would suggest: This fantastic BMW E30 must surely be one of the best.

About the model:

The E30 3 Series was penned by Claus Luthe, the designer of the NSU Ro 80, in 1978. Externally, the E30's appearance is very similar to the twin headlight versions of its E21 predecessor, although there are various styling modifications.

Major changes from the E21 include interior features and revised suspension to reduce the oversteer for which the E21 was criticised.

Unlike its predecessor, the second generation 3 Series was available as a four-door saloon as well as a two-door saloon, and a five-door estate model was added later.

In September 1987 BMW introduced a significant update to the E30 (often called "Series 2"), and the changes to the lineup included addition of the Touring variant and withdrawal of the 325e model.

External styling modifications included a new front bumper, redesigned rear lights, rear apron, headlight reflectors, and licence plate frame, while the window frames lost their chrome trim. Rust protection was improved with the update and there were various mechanical adjustments including an update to the engine range.

Following on from the E21, when the E30 was launched in 1982 it was fitted with the M10 straight-four and the M20 straight-six engines. During the course of the production run, the M20 received various upgrades.
